Class Descriptions

HEELS CHOREOGRAPHY

Grab a pair of heels and come learn some steamy choreography! Expect to work those legs and flaunt what you've got with a thorough warm up and then dive right into moves that will leave you feeling confident and sexy. Those with heels will get first dibs on this class, however if you want to try the class without shoes and there is space, you are more than welcome!

MODERN: MIND AND BODY

Expand your comfort zone and join this Modern class that will test your mind/body connection. We will explore our coordination with a variety of exercises including floor work, inversions, complex foot work, and big traveling phrases. We will end the class with an exciting, textured, and full bodied combination.

 

TRADITIONAL CUBAN BALLET

An intense Ballet class highlighting strength, flexibility, and deep exploration of body expression. We will introduce Cuban Ballet technique starting at the barre focusing on shape, dynamic movement, and extensions. After, we will move into the center aiming to maintain specificity energetic performance.

MOVING WITHOUT FEAR THROUGH IMPROVISATION

Learn how to let go free from judgement, and move on instinct, through this guided improvisation class. We will tap into our awareness from within and radiate it outwards, while opening our minds to new perspectives and movement patterns. Class will consist of a full body warm up, personal investigations through breath, touch, sight, and listening, all while using various tools to get out of our comfort zones to use on and off the stage.

CLASSIC JAZZ

This class will focus on traditional, classic jazz dance, but will give everyone a chance to get groovy! One of the best things about dance is being able to take the movement and make it your own, and I want everyone who takes my class to be able to add their own twist to it! We'll start with a warm up, do some across-the-floor exercises and then finish up with some fun choreography!

BALLET (Rachael)

An inclusive, positive energy ballet class for all-levels. This class will get you warmed up for a day of dance, and reawaken a love for ballet with challenging, thoughtful combinations. Modifications offered.

CHOREOGRAPHIC DEVICES

Designed to explore movement generation and order through an improvisation lens. Dancers and choreographers will experience 3-5 games or tools that can be utilized for classroom or stage based practices.

CHAIR-LESQUE

Chairlesque is a sassy and sultry class designed to empower your debaucherous nature. Our chair choreography is flirty and powerful as it expands from slow, lingering movements to sharp, sensual poses. This class utilizes isometric holds for ultimate core strengthening and tackles the technical aspects of dance on and off of the chair. Channel your alter ego or simply find empowerment through movement during this fun dance experience.

PHYSICAL THERAPY LECTURE

This presentation will focus on injury prevention, methods to improve performance, and recovery strategies related to the performing artist athlete. The course will provide the attendee with functional testing to assure their movement system is ready to perform higher skill positions in performing arts, tools to improve dance performance, and strategies to recover both physically and mentally after training.

MINDFUL VINYASA FLOW

The class will mindfully explore breath to movement, utilizing both yoga poses and mindfulness techniques to explore the mind /body connection. Class will begin with exploring grounding, breath techniques, movement and wrap up with meditation.

BALLET (Maryann)

Whether you're a true bun-head or just looking to return to the foundations of ballet to support your preferred style of dance, this class is for you!  I love ballet and love to share its subtle beauty, strength, and elegance with others.  You don't need to have perfect feet, 180-degree turnout, or amazing flexibility to be great at ballet.  Just bring your passion for movement and a desire to challenge yourself!

POWER VINYASA

The power yoga class focuses on alignment, strength building, breath to movement connection and body awareness. Expect to sweat in this class, as you learn about your body and, through practice, build up strength and flexibility! The sequences are designed to challenge you, build up to deeper expressions of both traditional and non traditional poses, more stability and strength. Modifications and adjustments are always offered to ensure safety and accessibility for yogis of all levels of experience. 

EVOLVING LYRICAL TECHNIQUE

Join us for an hour of lyrical technique.  We are going to work on making fluid motions and moving through space to tell stories through movement. Come work on evolving your lyrical technique into creative motions.

PARTNER ACRO FOR DANCE

Partner Acrobatics is a practice that blends circus arts, cheer leading, yoga, and dance. In this class we will explore different partner drills as warm ups to the dance skills that we will learn later in the class. We will also be covering handstands as they relate to acrobatics and dance. Come learn new partner skills in a fun way that can be added to your current practice.

BOLLYWOOD

Have you ever tried dancing on Bollywood songs? Come to this class to check out Bollywood moves!! This class offers very energetic, simple to learn, and innovative moves. You don't need to have any prior dance experience. We will teach you dance through story telling method. Join us to have fun and bond with fellow dancers! 

CUNNINGHAM WITH A TWIST

This class combines the basic structure of the Cunningham Technique, focusing on torso and legwork, spatial awareness and rhythmic accuracy with added layers including but not limited to: improvisation, a sound score of experimental sounds through the hits of today and more!

CONTEMPORARY PARTNERING
Contemporary partnering will focus on the physical and mental connection between partners though movement. We will focus on weight sharing, lifts, and partner improv. Dancers will learn a contemporary combo in which partnering will be the main focus. Dancers may come with a partner or be paired up at the class.

FRAZEE FEET DANCE REPERTOIRE

Geared towards Intermediate/Advanced dancers, in the class we will be learning segments of Frazee Feet Dance repertoire, all of which is original choreography by Zachary Frazee. The movement itself varies from piece to piece, but can be most accurately described as contemporary dance that is a blend of ballet and release technique aesthetics:
grounded, fluid, virtuosic and precise. We will begin with a series of warm-up exercises and then make our way through sections of 1-2 pieces. While learning these works, we will explore not only the physical aspects of the choreography, but also the intent and performance of each.

EGYPTIAN STYLE BELLY DANCING

Belly Dance is a beautiful and intricate style of movement that comes from Middle Eastern culture. Come and learn basic Egyptian belly dance technique, to get yourself started! Students will learn both beat-driven, staccato movements, and languid, soft movements.  We will combine our new moves into a mini choreography, to really feel like a belly dancer! 

MODERN FUNK

Modern Funk is a groovy class containing intricate movements, dynamic musicality, and added personal style, tied together with a technical modern dance base. This class will contain choreography that may tease your brain and challenge your musical ears. Come ready to Groove, Ground, and Get funky!

CONTEMPORARY DANCE

This modern dance class approaches movement from the anatomical standpoint and will teach exercises to strengthen the core and build stronger upper/lower and right/left side body connections.  Class will combine ballet technique with upper body movement and expressiveness. Center work will continue to support this with combinations aimed at challenging each dancer to learn quickly and perform full out.  Students will have the opportunity to take a modern dance sequence and, through improvisation and exploration of authentic movement, create a phrase that is uniquely their own. Dancers should dress in layers to be as comfortable throughout the class.   Bring clean socks and lyrical shoes if you have them.

HATHA FLOW

Hatha Flow description: A blend of mindfulness, meditation, and flow, which will begin and end with relaxation and breathwork. Come in comfortable clothing prepared to move and stretch.

FUELING THE ARTIST AND ATHLETE: NUTRITION FOR DANCERS OF ALL LEVELS

The body of a dancer is subject to intense activity and so often is not fueled properly, making fatigue or injury all too common.  In this workshop, we will discuss nutrient needs that are specific to the rigors of dance at various ages and levels of intensity as well as optimal timing of meals and snacks to make the most of your training and performance.

THEATRE DANCE

Theatre Dance will get warm with a Luigi based Jazz Technique emphasizing epaulment and foot articulation, simmer across the floor with hip isolations and heat up with a combination to It's Too Darn Hot.

DEVIANT DANCE TRIBE: DANCE FITNESS

Learn stylized choreography to a variety of world rhythms and familiar favorites. This cardio dance class feels less like exercise and more like a ritualistic celebration of movement. The choreography in this class is formulaic and repetitive which makes it easy to follow and find your groove. This class mixes both low- and high-intensity moves for an interval-style experience that caters to all dance levels.

ADVANCED BALLET

Designed for dancers who have achieved an intermediate/advanced level
of ballet technique.
